The Germiston Magistrate’s Court issued a procedural warrant of arrest for Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye on Monday 25 August 2026. The Jub Jub warrant of arrest followed his failure to appear for a postponed case from a June 2026 dispute with an e-hailing driver. Furthermore, his lawyer told the court Jub Jub has been off sick since 20 August 2026. As a result, the court issued the warrant on a procedural basis but can withdraw it if he produces a valid medical certificate.

The June 2026 case involves an alleged dispute between Jub Jub and an e-hailing driver. The court has not fully disclosed the details of the incident in open proceedings. Monday was his expected court date after an earlier postponement. His lawyer appeared on his behalf and told the magistrate his client could not attend due to illness since 20 August. The court found that explanation inadequate and issued the warrant. Furthermore, police can execute the warrant if Jub Jub does not appear at his next court date. As a result, he must show up or face arrest.

A procedural warrant differs from a standard warrant. Courts issue it when an accused fails to appear without good reason. It forces the accused to come to court. A future appearance with a satisfactory explanation can lead to its withdrawal. Furthermore, the accused does not automatically go into custody simply because a procedural warrant exists. As a result, the warrant signals the court’s authority over the accused rather than the start of an active search.

This is not the only legal matter Jub Jub faces in 2026. Earlier this year police arrested him on a separate allegation of kidnapping and firing a weapon. The court granted him R5,000 bail. That matter is still before the courts. Furthermore, Jub Jub has been one of South Africa’s most controversial entertainers for more than a decade. He served six years in prison after a 2010 drag racing accident in Protea Glen, Soweto that killed two schoolboys. As a result, his legal history is well known and each court appearance draws significant public attention.

After prison Jub Jub rebuilt his profile through television. He hosted Uyajola 9/9 on Moja Love, which became one of South Africa’s most watched reality programmes. However, the show generated controversy. In 2022 Amanda du Pont and several other women made public allegations of abuse against him. Moja Love pulled the show from its schedule for a period. Furthermore, Jub Jub denied all the allegations. As a result, his public reputation never fully recovered even as he continued working in entertainment.

The June 2026 e-hailing dispute adds another layer to a story that keeps growing. Some South Africans believe Jub Jub deserves the chance to clear his name in court. Others argue his repeated legal difficulties reflect a pattern the courts must address decisively. Furthermore, the procedural warrant means his next court appearance will again attract significant media coverage. As a result, whatever happens at that appearance South Africans will be watching.

Editors Note Molemo Maarohanye is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. No court has proven any of the charges. The procedural warrant of arrest can be withdrawn at a future court appearance. The allegations made against Jub Jub by Amanda du Pont and others in 2022 were not tested in court.
