The South African Police Service has made a breakthrough in the Ekurhuleni women murders investigation. Gauteng Murder and Robbery Unit members arrested one man and two women over the weekend in connection with the murder of the ninth victim. The three suspects appear before the Boksburg Magistrates Court on Monday 21 September 2026.
The ninth victim was discovered partially clothed in an open area on Lama Street in Villa Lisa, Dawn Park, Boksburg, on 17 September 2026. A passer-by found her body. She suffered a fatal throat injury and was approximately 30 years old.
Acting National Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane confirmed the arrests and stressed that all nine cases remain active. “Police are seized with all nine murder cases, with each case receiving priority attention,” she said. Dimpane also committed to continued urgency across the full investigation. “We remain committed to ensuring that these investigations are pursued with the urgency and determination they require,” she added.
Series of Women Murders Has Shaken Ekurhuleni Since July
In total, police have discovered nine female victims across Kempton Park and Ekurhuleni over a two-month period since July 2026. Authorities have deployed increased police presence in KwaThema, Nigel, and Dawn Park following the discoveries. Eight of the nine victims have since been identified.
Furthermore, a tenth body, not yet confirmed as linked to the series, was found in a dam at Moroka in Soweto on 20 September 2026. Gauteng police opened an inquest docket after that discovery and investigations continue.
As a result of sustained public pressure and community fear, the Gauteng Murder and Robbery Unit has intensified its focus across all nine open cases. Investigators have worked to process each scene individually and treat every case as a distinct priority.
The Ekurhuleni women murders have drawn national attention and calls for accountability from community members, women’s rights organisations, and government officials. South Africans have followed the investigation closely since the series of deaths came to light in July.
