Three men have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of racing driver Robert Wolk in Esther Park, Kempton Park on Wednesday 17 September 2026. Wolk was 41 years old. The Robert Wolk shot dead Kempton Park case began as a low-speed collision before escalating into a confrontation that ended his life. Video footage circulating on social media shows Wolk pleading with the other driver before the man shot him in the back as he walked away. The incident shocked both the motorsport community and the broader public.
The shooting took place at the intersection of Parklands and Cawood Streets in Esther Park. Wolk’s Audi collided with a blue Volkswagen Jetta 5 in what witnesses described as a minor accident. He stepped out of his vehicle to assess the damage. An argument then broke out between the two drivers. The footage shows Wolk trying to de-escalate before the other driver opened fire.
Who Was Robert Wolk
Motorsport South Africa described Wolk as hugely respected in the sport. He had nearly three decades of motorsport experience. He won the SA GTC Championship in both 2021 and 2022 and added the 2024 SA Touring Cars Championship to his record. “His passing leaves a profound void in South African motorsport,” Motorsport South Africa said. Wolk had plans to travel to Cape Town for a racing event at the time of his death.
The Arrests
A joint operation between the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department, SAPS Crime Intelligence and Blue Hawks Security produced three arrests. Officers caught one suspect in Spartan and detained two others at Enhlanzeni Hostel together with the getaway vehicle. A search at Allandale Farm in Mayibuye turned up a Beretta pistol with a filed serial number and ammunition. Investigators also linked the recovered vehicle to two additional hijacking and murder cases.
The three suspects face multiple charges including murder, possession of a suspected hijacked vehicle, and possession of an unlicensed firearm with ammunition. Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi confirmed the arrests and said the suspects would appear in court the following week. “We got them,” Lesufi said.
The shooting comes during a period of heightened police activity in Kempton Park. Nine women’s bodies have turned up across the east of Gauteng since July 2026. Police have found no link between the Wolk shooting and those cases. The two investigations are running separately. Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia deployed Operation Shanela to place Kempton Park and surrounding areas under lockdown as part of the women’s murder investigation. The Robert Wolk case has added to a broader public conversation about violent crime in Gauteng’s east.
No court date had been set at the time of publication.
