Podcast and Chill host MacG has apologised for comments he made about the Kempton Park women murders on a previous episode of the show. MacG apologises Kempton Park after days of public pressure and mounting criticism from fellow public figures. His co-host Sol Phenduka had broken ranks and issued a public apology days earlier, while MacG stayed silent.
The controversy began when a clip from Podcast and Chill spread widely on social media. In the clip, MacG joked about the disappearance of Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo, a 38-year-old runner who went missing in Kempton Park on 9 September 2026. He said: “You’d think the lady would keep on running.” Sol then added a pun suggesting her running bib number attracted her attacker. He said someone in the woods “saw her number and thought, I’m taking her.”
The episode aired while Moselakgomo was still missing. Her family identified her body on 14 September 2026. She left behind an eight-year-old child. Her murder forms part of the series of women’s killings under investigation across Ekurhuleni and Gauteng. Nine victims are confirmed, and a tenth body turned up in Soweto last weekend.
Celebrities and the Public Condemned the Podcast Hosts
The backlash was immediate. Rapper Cassper Nyovest posted his response on X on 16 September 2026. “These men are so insensitive, and it’s intentional. They know there are no repercussions. They say anything about anyone all in the name of content, and the damage is immeasurably catastrophic. A mother to an eight-year-old was killed, and there isn’t anything funny about that,” he said.
Furthermore, broadcaster Dineo Ranaka posted a video condemning both hosts. She addressed Sol directly. “You chose to normalise dehumanisation. A child was vulnerable and in a state of panic, her mother was missing, and you thought, yes, let us make this shock humour,” she said. Ranaka branded both hosts “bottom of the barrel filth” and dismissed Sol’s apology as insincere.
Sol Phenduka apologised on 16 September 2026. “Deriving a joke about a missing person is distasteful because it is a traumatic situation,” he said. He also called on men to stop perpetrating violence against women. However, South Africans questioned the sincerity of his words. Ntsiki Mazwai said she was unmoved. Critics pointed to a pattern of offensive remarks on the podcast followed by quick apologies whenever partnerships faced pressure.
In addition, Sol attracted further criticism when he deflected after receiving the Mampara of the Week label. Rather than accept it, he pointed to a different controversy. He asked why a man who threatened women at a Sandton restaurant had not received the label instead. Social media users rejected his response. “Take accountability and stop being childish,” one commenter wrote.
MacG Broke His Silence After Days of Criticism
MacG said nothing for days after Sol spoke out. His silence drew its own wave of criticism. Many noted the host of the show had not spoken while his co-host had already apologised. The pressure on MacG also arrived alongside his ongoing R2.5 million lawsuit from Minnie Dlamini. She sued over separate comments he made about her on the show in April 2025. Dlamini said those remarks cost her a R897,000 brand deal and damaged her confidence and public image.
Consequently, MacG addressed the matter on the latest episode of Podcast and Chill. He issued his apology to listeners and to the public. South Africans remain divided over whether words alone are enough, given that he joked about a woman who was missing at the time and later turned up murdered.
