A second suspect in the Reiger Park murders appeared in court on Monday 17 August 2026. Jamal Meyer, 24, faced the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court in connection with the murders of two Anti-Gang Unit officers and two civilian women. The Jamal Meyer Reiger Park arrest followed an intensive tracing operation on Sunday 16 August 2026. Furthermore, Meyer is the second suspect to face court over the attack of Friday 8 August 2026. As a result, investigators are making steady progress.
The Hawks arrested Meyer in Reiger Park on Sunday after an intensive tracing operation. Police say Meyer is not the only suspect. The first suspect, 23-year-old Reegan Cheslyn Collins, appeared in the same court on Wednesday 12 August 2026 on four counts of murder. The court postponed his case to 25 August 2026 for a bail application. Furthermore, Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia confirmed that not everyone responsible for the four murders was in custody at his last update to the Reiger Park community. As a result, further arrests remain possible.
Gunmen shot Anti-Gang Unit constables Thapelo Tlomatsane and Sphiwe Sibeko dead on Friday 8 August 2026. The officers had responded to gunfire in Reiger Park and drove toward the shooting when the attack happened. Cousins Jaydin Magerman, 27, and Rolene Lessing, 36, also died in the same attack. Their family spokesperson said the circumstances pointed to a close-range execution. Furthermore, investigators recovered the stolen R5 service rifles at KwaDukathole informal settlement in Germiston over the weekend. As a result, investigators have been working around the clock to identify and arrest all those responsible.
