Reiger Park Suspect Reegan Cheslyn Collins Faces Court on Four Murder Charges While Out on Bail for Other Murders
Reegan Cheslyn Collins, 23, appeared in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday 12 August 2026 on four counts of murder. The Reegan Collins Reiger Park case centres on the attack that killed two Anti-Gang Unit officers and two civilian women on Friday 8 August 2026. Furthermore, Collins was already out on bail for two separate murder cases and two attempted murder cases when the attack happened. As a result, his court appearance reignited public outrage about South Africa’s bail system.
Collins made a brief appearance under heavy police guard before the court postponed proceedings. Furthermore, he stood visibly shaken in the dock as armed officers kept watch. The court postponed the case to 25 August 2026 for a formal bail application. Hawks spokesperson Colonel Katlego Mogale confirmed Collins is a known gangster with multiple pending cases. Furthermore, police confirmed investigations continue and Collins is not the only suspect. As a result, authorities are still hunting more people linked to the attack.
The Hawks, Gauteng Crime Intelligence Tactical and Special Operations and other law enforcement units tracked Collins down. The operation led to the recovery of two R5 rifles at the KwaDukathole informal settlement in Germiston over the weekend. Police allege Collins took part in killing Anti-Gang Unit constables Thapelo Tlomatsane and Sphiwe Sibeko. Suspects ambushed the two officers on Friday evening after they drove toward the source of gunfire in Reiger Park. Gunmen shot them dead and stole their service rifles from their bodies.
The two civilian victims were cousins. Jaydin Magerman was 27 years old. Rolene Lessing was 36 years old. Their families believe someone deliberately targeted them. Family spokesperson Chris Landsberg said the circumstances pointed to an execution. “Whoever shot at the girls made sure it was close range, literally execution-style. No belongings were taken from the scene,” Landsberg said. Furthermore, the women had gone to a nearby shop and were sitting in their vehicle when gunmen approached and shot them. As a result, two families are demanding justice for what they believe was a planned killing.
A community member in Reiger Park told TimesLIVE: “What is sad is that we know these people. They live with us. Even when we report them, the next day they are out on bail or never arrested at all. If they face justice, maybe the killings will stop.” Furthermore, Collins was already out on bail for multiple violent offences when the Friday attack allegedly happened. Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia returned to Reiger Park on Monday. He said all those involved in the four murders had not yet been arrested. “Our work is not done,” Cachalia said. As a result, the community remains on edge as police continue investigating the Reiger Park attack.
