The National Coloured Congress says 15 armed officers in ski masks entered a Westridge property at 4am on Saturday searching for its leader. A child was allegedly assaulted. SAPS has not responded to the allegations.

A Mitchells Plain home formerly occupied by National Coloured Congress leader and Member of Parliament Fadiel Adams was allegedly raided by police in the early hours of Saturday 2 May 2026. According to a statement issued by the NCC, the officers were searching for Adams, who was not at the property at the time. The South African Police Service had not issued any public statement on the matter at the time of publication.

What the NCC Says Happened

According to the National Coloured Congress, fifteen police officers entered a property in Westridge, Mitchells Plain, at approximately 4am on Saturday morning. The NCC alleges that the officers arrived clad in ski masks, refused to identify themselves, and did not present a search warrant or a warrant of arrest at any point during the operation.

The party further alleges that the officers pointed firearms at the occupants of the home and that a 12-year-old boy was assaulted during the incident. Other members of the household were allegedly left traumatised. The NCC states that the officers parked their vehicle approximately 100 metres from the property, allegedly to prevent their number plates from being identified.

The current occupant of the property is described as an educator who is not related to Adams. That individual has since opened cases of unlawful entry, assault of a minor, and intimidation against the officers involved.

Adams himself was not present at the property at the time of the alleged raid. The NCC confirmed that the Westridge address is a former residence of Adams and not his current home.

Adams Opens Intimidation Case

In response to the alleged incident, Fadiel Adams confirmed that he would be opening a case of intimidation against the South African Police Service at a Cape Town police station. In the NCC statement, Adams characterised the alleged operation as an attempt to intimidate him.

The NCC has called for an urgent and independent investigation into the conduct of the officers involved in the alleged raid.

SAPS Has Not Responded

At the time of publication, the South African Police Service had issued no public statement regarding the alleged raid. SAPS has not confirmed whether the operation was conducted under lawful authority, whether a warrant existed, the identity or rank of the officers involved, or the legal basis for the search. The Western Cape SAPS provincial office has also not commented on the matter.

Who Is Fadiel Adams

Fadiel Adams is the leader of the National Coloured Congress and a sitting Member of Parliament. He has been a prominent witness in processes related to the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry and Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee investigating allegations of criminal infiltration and political interference within South Africa’s criminal justice system.

During his testimony before the Ad Hoc Committee, Adams stated that he had come into possession of classified documents allegedly implicating senior crime intelligence officers and had subsequently laid criminal charges. He alleged that attempts were made to suppress those charges. Several MPs on the committee noted that his testimony was supported by documentation.

KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi had previously alleged that Adams obtained sensitive crime intelligence unlawfully and acted recklessly in using it to file charges allegations Adams denied before the committee.

MPs on the Ad Hoc Committee remain divided on Adams’ testimony and its implications.

What Happens Next

The cases opened by the current occupant of the Westridge property and by Adams himself will need to be investigated. Given that the complaints are being lodged against SAPS officers, the Independent Police Investigative Directorate would be the appropriate body to conduct such an investigation. IPID involvement had not been confirmed at the time of publication.
