Police in Tshwane are investigating the murder of two 14 year old twin brothers in Mamelodi West. Their mother found the Mamelodi twins stabbed to death at home when she returned from work on Friday night.
Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said officers responded to a murder scene at the house. When they arrived, they found the bodies of the twins in a bedroom. Both boys had multiple stab wounds.
However, police still do not know what led to the killings. So far, officers have not made any arrests, and the investigation continues.
Police hunt for answers after Mamelodi twins stabbed
At this stage, police have not said whether anyone forced their way into the house. In addition, they have not said whether the attackers took anything. Police have also not released the names of the boys.
Meanwhile, the killings have left the family and the wider Mamelodi community in shock. News of the deaths spread quickly on social media. As a result, many users shared their grief and called for swift arrests.
Furthermore, the case adds to a worrying number of violent crimes against children in South Africa in recent weeks. For example, a court in Stilfontein this week jailed a man for life for murdering his two year old step grandson.
In the meantime, police have urged anyone with information about the murders to come forward. People can report tips at their nearest police station or through the MySAPS app.
For now, investigators continue to search for whoever killed the Mamelodi twins stabbed in their own home, while a grieving mother waits for answers.
