Businessman Thami Ndlala has been granted R10 000 bail by the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court on charges of extortion and intimidation. The Thami Ndlala bail ruling came on Tuesday, a day after police arrested the 45 year old outside the Randburg Magistrate’s Court.

The state did not oppose bail. The prosecutor proposed the amount of R10 000 and told the court that Ndlala has no previous convictions and no pending cases. Both sides also agreed that the matter falls under Schedule 1 of the Criminal Procedure Act, which covers less serious offences for bail purposes.

As part of his bail conditions, Ndlala must not intimidate model and former reality star Azul Blue Mbombo. In addition, a legal representative held a watching brief for Mbombo during the proceedings. The court postponed the case to 20 November to allow police to continue their investigation.

How the Thami Ndlala bail case unfolded

According to Gauteng police spokesperson Brigadier Brenda Muridili, Midrand police completed their investigation and took the docket to court. A magistrate then issued a warrant for Ndlala’s arrest. Police executed the warrant on Monday, while Ndlala was at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court for a separate protection order hearing that Mbombo brought against him. The court postponed that hearing to December.

After the arrest, Ndlala disputed the reports. According to eNCA, he insisted that he was not in custody and had never been arrested. He also denied that the cellphone number allegedly used to intimidate Mbombo belongs to him. However, he appeared in court the very next day.

The case follows a bitter public dispute between the two. Earlier this month, Mbombo accused Ndlala of months of death threats, verbal abuse and intimidation. She also alleged that he hired people to intimidate her. Ndlala denies all the allegations and has described them as unproven and misleading.

Furthermore, Ndlala obtained an interim order from the Johannesburg High Court on 3 October. The order told Mbombo to remove certain social media posts and barred her from publishing unproven claims of threats against him. He is also reportedly suing her for defamation.

Ndlala is married to Metro FM presenter Lerato Kganyago. Neither Ndlala nor Mbombo commented publicly after Tuesday’s court appearance.

Meanwhile, commentary across social media platforms remains divided. Some users questioned his earlier claim that he was never arrested. Others predicted that police may still add more charges, while some urged the public to let the court process take its course.
